Introduction: The first milestone on the way to Vermont’s Comprehensive Energy Plan goal of 90% renewable by 2050 is to meet 25% of Vermont’s energy needs from renewable sources by 2025 (10 V.S.A 580(a)). Vermont has a related goal of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 50% from 1990 levels by 2028, on the way to 75% reductions by 2050 (10 V.S.A 578(a)). Most recently, Vermont also committed to meet the Paris climate agreement target of reducing GHG emissions 26-28% from 2005 levels by 2025.

As of 2016, the share of Vermont’s total energy need met with renewable sources was approximately 16%. As of 2013, Vermont’s GHG emissions had increased 4% from 1990 levels and decreased 11% from 2005 levels. While these numbers will continue to improve with energy efficiency investments, increasing targets in Vermont’s Renewable Energy Standard (RES), and greater adoption of technologies like electric vehicles, heat pumps, and automated wood heating systems that displace fossil fuels, few believe that we are currently on a “business as usual” trajectory that will confidently result in meeting both our energy and climate goals by 2025.

Invitation of Pitches: We have a lot of work to do over the next 8-10 years. That is why we want to hear your pitch for promising opportunities to help Vermont meet our 2025 goals.

Selected proposals will be invited to present (6 minutes) at the Vermont Energy and Climate Summit co-hosted by the Energy Action Network (EAN) and the VT Climate Pledge Coalition (VCPC) on November 8th at Champlain College in Burlington. Please submit your pitch by using the form below and emailing completed proposals to by Wednesday, October 18th.

Regardless of whether you are invited to present on Nov.8th, (notification will come by Wed. Oct. 25) all submitted and complete proposals will be included in a full compilation to be submitted to the Governor’s Climate Action Commission and the Vermont Legislature.
