Mission and Approach

About EAN

Energy Action Network consists of a network and an organization.

The EAN Network

The Network’s mission is to achieve Vermont’s climate and energy commitments in ways that create a more just, thriving, and sustainable future.

The Network consists of hundreds of public sector, non-profit, utility, business, and higher education partners working collaboratively to achieve this mission. Since 2020, EAN has structured much of our collaborative work through Network Action Teams, coalitions, and working groups selected by EAN members and partners for their potential to help Vermont rapidly, cost-effectively, and equitably reduce fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas pollution.

The EAN Organization

The organization’s mission is to ensure that Vermont makes evidence-based energy and climate decisions that are grounded in high-quality data and analysis and collaboratively developed for effective and durable progress.

The organization plays two key roles.

  1.  Conducting climate and energy data tracking, research, and analysis on behalf of all Vermonters
  2.  Facilitating effective collaboration in service of the Network’s mission by:
    • Stewarding a common agenda for Network members and partners
    • Coordinating mutually reinforcing activities to develop, share, and advance high-impact ideas, and
    • Ensuring regular communication to and across the Network

Collective Impact Approach

We approach our work together through two key lenses:

  1. Total Energy Transformation: We work toward efficient and renewable energy use across all sectors — transportation, thermal, and electric.
  2. Strategic Leverage Areas: We work to enable systemic change at a scale and pace necessary to achieve Vermont’s energy & emissions commitments, focusing on Policy & Regulatory Reform, Capital Mobilization, Public Engagement, and Technology Innovation. We also support the Network Action Teams working on strategic projects identified and selected by the Network.
