Total Energy News | December 2025

Greetings!

Those who were at the EAN Summit in early November may be curious about next steps for the four new Network Teams that EAN has committed to support. EAN staff has met with each of the pitch groups to discern first steps and confirm who will be co-chairing the teams. In the new year, each team will start to expand to include additional people who have let us know they are interested. You can learn more about each of the new teams on the EAN website.

We have the lists of people who expressed interest in these teams, but if you didn’t let us know you are interested (or don’t remember if you did), please fill in this brief form. The form will let us know which teams you are interested in, including these new teams, any of our ongoing teams, and our occasional information sharing meetings through the Communications Collaborative and the Research and Data Collaborative convened by EAN.

All the best,

Cara and Jared

Data Download | Fees, Taxes, and charges compared to climate pollution

A key source of investment to support energy efficiency and beneficial electrification comes from fees, taxes, and charges on energy purchased in Vermont, ranging from 0.7% to 5.5%, depending on the heating fuel. Fossil heating fuels such as fuel oil and propane pay one sixth of the fees, taxes, and charges that electricity does, despite producing 6 times more climate pollution. This puts upward pressure on the price of electricity, Vermont’s cleanest energy source, and is inconsistent with the “polluter pays” principle.

This graph comes from the recently released EAN 2025 Annual Progress Report for Vermont on Energy, Affordability, and Emissions.
