Vermont’s Department of Health has produced webpages related to the interaction of Climate and Health.
Their webpage on Hot Weather includes many useful resources on the effects of heat related illnesses and how to stay safe in the heat. This includes interactive and downloadable maps sharing cooling sites, as well as information on swimming safety and avoiding cyanobacteria. With printable heat safety resources, and fact sheets and videos in multiple languages, this webpage is worth taking a look at and sharing with others.

Extreme heat is challenging to many people whose work forms part of the backbone of Vermont’s communities and economy, from farming to outdoor recreation. It is also especially challenging to the elderly, the very young, and others with medical concerns. Due to our high humidity, days when the temperature reaches 87 degrees or higher are considered extreme heat days in Vermont. The average number of extreme heat days in Burlington has increased by about 155% since 1960.
This is a new graph that will appear in the 2026 EAN Annual Progress Report for Vermont on Energy, Affordability, and Emissions, which will be released in September.

VW Environmental Mitigation Trust Request for Applications
Funding from Vermont’s allocation of the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust is now available to help public and private fleets of all sizes replace diesel vehicles and equipment with zero-emission options. Beginning July 1st, Vermont DEC is accepting applications for vehicle and equipment electrification projects. Applications are due on the last day of each month, with awards announced monthly. A total of $5,909,575 is available for projects that significantly reduce emissions from diesel-powered vehicles, engines, and equipment operating in Vermont.
