We also wanted to share an update from our partners at the Vermont Low Income Trust for Electricity (VLITE). VLITE is requesting proposals for low income efficiency and renewable funding. Proposals are due August 12, 2019 by 5:00pm and will be reviewed and selected at the September Board meeting. See the VLITE site for details of the selection process and to submit your proposal.
Finally, mark your calendars for the Vermont Council on Rural Development’s upcoming event, the 2nd Annual Vermont Community Leadership Summit on August 12, 2019 at VTC. Join local leaders working to improve life in their communities, follow up on action and progress since the 2018 Summit, hear inspiring stories of community success, access skills to support community initiatives, engage in envisioning the future of Vermont leadership, and connect to leadership resources. Looking at the total operating cost, the American Automobile Association found that an all-electric vehicle cost 11.28 cents per mile, compared to a medium sedan at 17.76 cents per mile.
That means gas vehicle drivers spend nearly $10,000 more on operations and maintenance over 150,000 miles.

Transportation bill boosts electric vehicles
The Transportation Bill passed by the legislature this year designates funding for electric vehicles and charging stations. VTrans aims to increase fast charging along highway corridors.

PUC chair: Need for “wartime effort” on EVs
The Vermont Public Utilities Commission recently issued their report on the electric vehicle investigation, finding that a significant statewide effort will be necessary to meet the CEP goals.

Vehicle efficiency fight
Vermont joined 22 other states in supporting California’s opposition to the Trump Administration’s proposed rollback of vehicle efficiency standards. The new rules are expected in the next few months.
