The
IPCC issued a report detailing extreme near-term risks if the world does not act aggressively to curb emissions. Vox’s David Roberts
shared some research on what a plan to reach the IPCC’s targets might entail.

Report: US almost halfway to achieving Paris climate goals thanks to city, state action
Despite President Trump pledging to leave the Paris agreement, cities and states around the country are still making progress towards Paris. However, as of 2015, Vermont’s emissions are down only 2% since 2005.

A Green New Deal is on the ballot in Washington state this year
One state, Washington, is looking to pass a ballot initiative to put a price on carbon on election day this year. David Roberts details how the campaign has learned from a previous attempt, and what’s at stake.

The recent IPCC report demonstrates the necessity of curbing emissions, particularly from energy. Here in Vermont, energy makes up 81% of our greenhouse gas emissions, but the chart at the left demonstrates the need to focus on the thermal and transportation sectors, which together make up more than 70% of Vermont’s emissions.

Efficiency
The Vermont Public Utility Commission (PUC) has opened an investigation to look at how Vermont’s unique efficiency utilities can best serve Vermonters.

Transportation
Staying busy, the PUC is also running a workshop on electric vehicle access in Vermont and how to ensure more Vermonters can go electric.
|
|
Electric
There is currently one large-scale wind project under consideration in Vermont, a single turbine on a dairy farm in the northeast corner of our state.
